SHELTER RENTALS

The New Martinsville Parks & Recreation Department is taking Bruce, Lewis Wetzel, and Brooklyn Park shelter reservations for April, May, June, July, August, and September. Rental season for shelters starts the first business day after January 1. Reservations are based on a first come first serve basis. Reservations can be made at the City Building or by calling 455-9130. The cost of the shelters vary upon the size. Payment is due upon rental. For more information contact the Parks Office at 455-9130.

FAMILY CENTER RENTALS

The Lewis Wetzel Family Center, located at 442 E. Benjamin Drive, is a multi-use facility that NMP&R rents out on a regular basis. Located in the beautiful Lewis Wetzel Park (behind Wetzel County Hospital), it has hosted reunions, birthday parties, dances, meetings, fundraisers, dinners, weddings, etc. The building capacity is 320 seated individuals. The Family Center has a kitchen equipped with a working microwave, stovetop, oven, refrigerator, ice machine, and sinks. For more info about renting the facility please call 455-9130.

MINI GOLF PARTIES

The newly renovated Bruce Park Miniature Golf Course is rented out for birthday parties throughout the Mini Golf season during hours it is not open to the public or during public hours at a “group” discounted rate. Some rentals are made in conjunction with a shelter rental at the Bruce Medium Shelter (closest to the Mini Golf Course.) For availability, please call the Parks Department.

KENNYWOOD, IDLEWILD, AND SANDCASTLE TICKET SALE

New Martinsville Parks and Recreation offers discount amusement park tickets for sale at the City Hall in New Martinsville from May-September. These are general admission tickets, available for a limited time. Cash only please. For more information call 304-455-9130.

SANTA CALLING

Every December Santa Claus contacts the New Martinsville Parks & Recreation Department to let us know that he will be stopping to make special phone calls to children ages 3 years old through second grade. We need your help so that your child wont be missed. Call in late November to inquire about this program.

DADDY DAUGHTER DANCE

The NM Parks & Recreation holds it's annual Daddy Daughter Dance on the Saturday BEFORE Valentine’s Day every year. Sign ups start in early December so call in and sign up at that time. The dance will be held at the Lewis Wetzel Family Center in New Martinsville from 7:30pm to 10:00pm. It is for dads and daughters up to age 18. There are prizes, refreshments, decorations, professional pictures and some awesome entertainment! Space is limited so sign up early, it is usually sold out by February!

SAFETY TOWN

The New Martinsville Parks and Recreation Commission will be sponsoring their annual Safety Town Program. Children ages 4, 5, & 6 will learn safety procedures through involvement. In their controlled environments, they will ride bikes, learn to cross the street (mini-street), properly, various other safety issues will be addressed and kids will have the chance to meet fire and policemen. This will be a hands on program including traffic rules carried out on tricycles and big wheels in our model city located in Lewis Wetzel Park. Today, more than ever, children need to learn safety procedures.

Safety Town is taught at Lewis Wetzel Family Center & Park from 10:00 am until 12:00 PM for two weeks. Snacks will be provided daily. There will be a graduation ceremony at the end of the two week course. Participants must be 4 years old by the start of the program. The two week session will begin on a Monday, early to mid-June.

Registration for Safety Town will be accepted at the New Martinsville City Building starting in early May. Sign up early, space is limited. For more information contact the New Martinsville Parks and Recreation Office at 455-9130.

ARTS IN THE PARK-4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION

July 4th, 1pm-5pm at Bruce Park in New Martinsville

There will be vendors, music, free refreshments and children’s games.

SUMMER DAY CAMP

The New Martinsville Parks & Recreation Department has summer Day Camp for children ages 4 to 10 through the month of July. The camp will be at Lewis Wetzel and Bruce Parks. The camp will be from 10:00 am - 2:00 PM Monday through Thursday. Each child needs to bring a lunch except for Thursday, when there will be a cook out picnic for the children. Some of the activities at Day Camp include arts & crafts, games, swimming, and mini golf. Applications can be picked up at the City Hall in New Martinsville in early May.

MOVIES IN THE PARK

Throughout the summer NMP&R will host movies at Bruce Park. Movie time is typically around 8:00-8:30pm (when it gets dark enough). The times/dates/movie titles are to be determined. Watch our Facebook page, local Channel 15, the news papers, and listen to the radio for more info or call the Parks Department regarding upcoming movies.

The City of New Martinsville Parks and Recreation Department consists of Brooklyn Park, the New Martinsville Marina, the Historic Lincoln Theater, Bruce Park, Snyder Ball Fields and Lewis Wetzel Park. These parks welcome thousands of visitors each year. Whether they are playing a round of miniature golf, riding a paddle boat, enjoying a show at the Theater, attending a family reunion at a picnic shelter or a wedding reception at the Lewis Wetzel Family Center our goal is to make their visit safe, enjoyable and affordable.

All of our parks have recently become completely tobacco free.

Brooklyn Park

Located at the south end of New Martinsville consists of two picnic shelters, tennis court, basketball court, playground, tot lot and rest room facilities. 

New Martinsville Marina

Boat ramp and dock giving access into Fishing Creek then to the Ohio River.  Rest room facilities also available.

Bruce Park

Home of our newly renovated 18-hole miniature golf course, basketball court, tennis courts, 3 picnic shelters, softball field and playground.

Lewis Wetzel Park

Paddle boats, swimming pool, basketball court, baseball field, playground, picnic shelter, dog park and the Lewis Wetzel Family Center. The Family Center is available for rentals for wedding receptions, reunions, etc., maybe put prices in, etc.

Snyder Ball Fields

Baseball/soccer field and softball field. The Magnolia High School Girls Softball Team and Boys and Girls Soccer Teams play their home games here.

Lincoln Theater

 

Beautiful renovated, historical theater built in the 1920’s. Gloria Swanson debuted in her silent film hit “Stage Struck” here. The venue for various variety shows and musicals. Available for rentals.
